The online photo upload system is available for both students and full time staff. If you are not full time staff, but believe you are eligible for an ID card, please contact cardservices@uci.edu. Guidelines on how to submit a photo for approval are below.

To be prepared for the academic year and avoid delays receiving your new ID card, upload your photo and supporting identification as soon as possible, as the photo approval process does take some time.

How to upload your photo

1. Go to MyPhotoID.uci.edu and log in using your UCInetID.

2. Choose Upload Your Photo from the left menu

3. Submit photo of your government-issued ID as a supporting document. Government-issued ID examples: passport, driver license or a state-issued ID

4. Next, upload the photo for your UCI ID. Your photo should resemble a passport photo. More guidelines and examples are below.

5. After selecting "Upload Photo", you will be taken to the crop page. Make sure your photo follows cropping guidelines and hit "Save Photo".

6. Your submission will be reviewed within 48 hours. You will receive an email when your photo is approved/denied.

Photo Guidelines
Your ID photo must resemble a passport photo and meet the following requirements:
  • Must be a color digital jpg or png photo, without filters or any digital alteration. Photocopies or scans are not acceptable.
  • Subject must directly face the camera and be centered in photo
  • Head, eyes and shoulders must be level.
  • Lighting must be even overall.
  • Photo should be cropped slightly above head and just below the shoulders.
  • One person in photo only.
  • Background must be plain white or off‐white, with no shadows or objects.
  • Eyes should be open, visible and looking straight at the camera.
  • Hair must not obscure eyes or any parts of the face. No sunglasses, hats or head coverings. Exceptions are for religious or medical purposes with a signed statement (uploaded along with supporting document in one file).
  • Use a neutral expression or smiling face. Exaggerated expressions are not acceptable.

Government ID Guidelines
You must submit a valid government‐issued ID as a supporting document

Supporting documents must include a recent photo of yourself and your full legal name. Any of the following pieces of government-issued identification are acceptable:

  • Passport photo page / Passport Card
  • Driver License
  • State issued identification card
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Trusted Traveler Card
  • US Armed Services identification card
  • If you do not possess any of these documents, a recent School Photo ID such as a High School Photo ID as a supporting document is also acceptable.

How do I submit a photo for my UCI ID?

All photos for students, faculty and staff, must be submitted online. Please view instructions here on how to submit a photo for approval.

How long do photo approvals take?

Your photo will be approved or denied 24-48 hours after submitting (not including weekends and holidays). You will receive an automated email whether it has been approved or denied. In order to make sure your photo is not denied please watch the submission video and review guidelines

What qualifies as a supporting document for photo uploads?

Can I change how my name is displayed on my ID card

We only print First/Preferred Names and Last Names provided by the registrar. If you’d like to edit your name, please visit the Registrar to update your preferred name.

If I already have a physical card, do I need a mobile ID?

No. Physical cards may be kept for now, but we do plan on switching to 100% mobile in the future. If you would like to use a mobile ID instead of your physical ID, please contact CardServices@uci.edu . Mobile ID works like your physical card, but you don’t have to worry about misplacing it!

Can I have a mobile and physical ID?

You may only have only one ID. If you are receiving an ID after June 1st 2023 this ID will be mobile. If you do not have a smartphone you will need to contact CardServices@uci.edu .

Where on campus can I use my ID Card?

Your UCI ID can be used in a variety of ways:

  • UCI Dining - Connect it to your Meal Plan or Zot Bucks and just scan to eat! Available to use at on campus Dining Halls, Starbucks, Cafes, Convenience Stores, Food Courts etc. 
  • The Hill Bookstore - Purchase textbooks and school merchandise
  • Test Taking - You will need your ID in order to take tests in the classroom
  • Discounts - Use anywhere student discounts are given! Check a short list of UCI participants here

You can load Zot Bucks, Flex Dine, or Meal Plan funds all on your Atrium Connect Profile. For individual how-to’s please click the link(s) below:

  • Meal Plan - Gives you access to both of our all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, Brandywine and The Anteatery.
  • FlexDine - Use at any of our cafes, restaurants and convenience stores across campus.( *Excluding Café Espresso and the University Club*) Also use with your Grubhub app when purchasing from the above places!
  • Zot Bucks - Used for purchases at the Hill, dining locations, and convenience stores

Does the money I add onto my student ID expire?

There are different funds that can be loaded to your UCI ID

  • Zot Bucks - Zot Bucks are currently refundable until Sept. 19th, 2023. To request a refund you must email CardServices@uci.edu before Sept. 19th. 
  • Meal Plan: All Anteater plans (excluding the 7-Day All Access and Housing Meal Plan) carry over between quarters, but do expire. Please check Dining Meal Plan FAQs for more information.

Is there a charge for replacements of physical IDs?
